Embracing Resilience: Unveiling Truths for a Balanced Life

Vermont trees and mountains.

As the world whirls on in its relentless pace, it's easy to get swept away in the currents of responsibilities and demands. But occasionally, life offers us the gift of pause – a chance to step back, reconnect with loved ones, and rejuvenate ourselves. That's exactly what I embarked upon during one of my most recent trips to the heart of Vermont's natural beauty. This respite not only allowed me to spend quality time with my family but also offered space for recalibration, nourishment, rest, play, and most importantly, the opportunity to call in inspiration.

As I nestled in Vermont's embrace, surrounded by the vibrant hues of nature and perhaps fueled by a delightful sugar high from the region's renowned Maple Syrup, a singular word reverberated within my thoughts: RETURN.

And so, on this day, I stand on the threshold of returning to the foundations of resilience. I am here to share with you three potent truths that have stood the test of time, guiding countless individuals on their journey towards resilience.

Resilience Truth #1: Vulnerability is the Essence of Resilience

Often, the idea of resilience conjures images of unwavering strength and unyielding toughness. Yet, in the tapestry of life, true resilience is woven with threads of vulnerability. It's not about erecting walls or suppressing emotions; it's about acknowledging our vulnerability and finding strength in our ability to adapt and grow. This truth resonates deeply with me, for vulnerability remains a challenge I grapple with daily. To navigate this path, I've crafted a Vulnerability Checklist – a roadmap to creating space for vulnerability in your life. It's a reminder that embracing our vulnerability is a cornerstone of resilience.

Resilience Truth #2: Resilience is Ingrained in the Fabric of Life

Resilience isn't a fleeting trend or a buzzword of the moment; it's an enduring quality intricately woven into every fiber of existence. Think back to your childhood – a time when you instinctively engaged in behaviors that enabled survival. Crying as a way to communicate needs, seeking help when necessary – these are manifestations of innate resilience. The very act of living is a testament to your lifelong journey of building resilience. It's a remarkable realization that underscores the extraordinary strength within each of us.

Resilience Truth #3: Embracing Resilience as a Calling

For me, resilience isn't merely a concept to be understood; it's a calling that reverberates deep within my soul. Guiding CEOs, encouraging children to take that tentative step into the pool, aiding survivors of brain injuries as they reclaim their lives – these experiences have nurtured my dedication to the work of resilience. It's a path that's illuminated my purpose – to share resilience with over one billion souls by 2030. This isn't just my journey; it's our collective journey. Each of us, you included, plays a part in propagating this invaluable trait. Your presence, your commitment – they infuse this superpower into your life and inspire others to follow suit.

And now, the torch of inspiration is passed to you. Do you have questions about resilience? Don't hesitate – contact us and send your queries my way. I assure you, every email finds its way to me, and I make every effort to respond.

As I step out of the cocoon of rejuvenation, a long-kept secret unfurls – after this revitalizing break (have you taken time for yourself this summer?), I am thrilled to announce the launch of our Resilience Video and Podcast series – "Flourish or Fold: Stories of Resilience." Stay tuned as we unveil the remarkable details that lie ahead.

Let's remember that life is a tapestry woven with both challenges and triumphs. And through it all, the thread of resilience binds us together, propelling us forward. Always hold onto the belief that something wonderful is on the horizon.

The concept of resilience is built on the very ideology that we have the capacity to face hard things: trauma, loss, misfortune, and the like, and come out on the other side; not diminished, but instead, enhanced."
